Fortunately it isn’t snowing on the subway or on Coney Island, so you’ll have a clear view of the action. There are escapades through a museum of natural history, Diamond Eddie’s nightclub, in a taxicab, on the subway, at Carnegie Hall, at Rajah Bimmey’s Coney Island Harem Scarum sideshow, and more! The symphonic score is by Leonard Bernstein and the lyrics are by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. Kathy Lovering is directing, Kathy Redman is producing, with music direction by Ginny Corcoran and choreography by Martha Daniels Holland. Louis Duhamel is heading up the Stage Management team. This show features the music of George and Ira Gershwin, and the hilarious 1990’s spoof of 1930’s musicals is a treat for everyone. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and senior citizens. This is the 9th annual spring musical at Souhegan High. This year’s show promises to be a laugh a minute delight graced by the beauty George and Ira Gershwin’s music and lyrics. Jon Weinstein is the city boy (Bobby Child) while Lauryl Trenholme-Pihl plays the winsome straw chewing country beauty, Polly Baker. The cast includes Nathan Atkinson as the big New York producer, Bela Zangler, Marissa Shaver as Bobby’s domineering New York girl friend, Irene, Sarah Thompson as Bobby’s even more domineering mother, Ariel Hanrath Clark as Polly’s nostalgic ridden father, and Nick Neverisky as Lank Hawkins , the grasping, greedy local saloon keeper. Emily Bielagas and Mike Cahill play a zany traveling English couple, the Fodors, compiling a -- get this-- travel book. The Follies girls and cowboys round out a high steppin' show full of song and dance. Her employees are Audrey, a bit of a ditz, and Seymour the nerd. The flower shop on skid row starts to bring in money after Seymour discovers a strange and interesting new plant. Tickets are $10 general admission. Using crystal clear tenor voices and dark eerie baritones, talented male vocalists take their turn at presenting Broadway showstoppers written just for men. The hair won’t be as big, and the heels might not be as high, but the voices and the egos will soar as they try to surpass the heights reached by the women! Who is the fairer sex? The great Mikado is in search of his son Nanki-Poo, who is betrothed to Katisha, and who has left his father’s household and disguised himself as a second trombone in the Titipu Town Band. It turns out that Nanki-Poo is in love with Yum-Yum, who returns the sentiment but is betrothed to Ko-Ko, the Lord High Executioner of Titipu. How the couple manages to confound and confuse their intendeds and even the Mikado himself, with the help of Pooh-Bah, Pitti-Sing, Pish-Tush, and Peep-Bo is outrageously, contagiously funny, and a wonderful musical comedy adventure for all ages! The Majestic Youth Company is now accepting applications for the 2001 season. The function of the Majestic Youth Company is primarily to educate and provide opportunities for younger performers ages 7 to 15. In 1999 and 2000 the Majestic Youth Company served over 100 young artists over two summer sessions. This year the Majestic Youth Company will hold three diverse educational sessions throughout the summer. The emphasis of the youth programs is on the training and exploration of all aspects of the theatre. This is done through participation in a series of workshops and classes that will culminate in the presentation of a musical production at the end of each session. Each session will provide a fun-filled adventure through all aspects of the theatre, with each session taking a different emphasis and focus depending on the culminating performance.
