This musical by Steven Sondheim follows painter George Seurat, as he completes his most famous piece, “A Sunday on the Isle of Le Grande Jette.” Sondheim creates a history for George and the characters in the painting, bringing them to life through song. The musical comedy runs 5/4 through 5/6 at the Tyngsboro Junior-Senior High School auditorium, 36 Norris Rd. This is the first production of the new American Children's Theater. The play follows the antics of the three little pigs as they head to a western dude ranch to escape from the Big Bad Wolf and his cousin. The cast of 16 lively youngsters, ranging in age from 7 to 12, will perform several toe-tapping, foot-stomping musical numbers including Piggy Wiggy Wiggle and The Boogie Woogie Cowboy Pig. Portraits – An original play, written and directed by student Brynne-Ithaca Dizack, brings to the stage a touching story about an artist specializing in portraits. A commentary on love, life, and art, we learn that behind each painting of each face lies a hundred stories we can only begin to understand. Gloria Mundi – Virginia Blake (Paige Betts) is a new nurse at an insane asylum. She is eager to learn. To live. To touch life. Insanity, she finds out, is not an exclusive term in a world where truth is darkness, nothing is what it seems and sanity is an illusion. The function of the Majestic Youth Company is to educate and provide opportunities for younger performers ages 7 to 15. In 1999 and 2000 the Majestic Youth Company served over 100 young artists over two summer sessions. This year the Majestic Youth Company will hold three diverse educational sessions throughout the summer. The emphasis of the youth programs is on the training and exploration of all aspects of the theatre.
