The setting is Greeley Park in Nashua, and the dates are 7/6, 7/7, 7/13, and 7/14, 4:00 PM, free and open to all. The plot describes the volatile courtship between the shrewish Katharina and the canny Petruchio, who is determined to subdue Katharina's legendary temper and win her dowry. Although Katharina repeatedly insults Petruchio, he woos, wins, and tames her by insisting that she is actually the soul of gentleness and patience. After their marriage, he makes her forego food, sleep, and fancy clothing, and he outdoes her mean tongue by abusing the servants. In the final scene, Petruchio wins a bet that his wife is the most obedient, after Katharina gives a speech extolling the virtues of wifely subservience. This intimate show is among the most charming musicals ever written. Georg and Amalia are two feuding clerks in a European parfumerie during the 1930's, who secretly find solace in their anonymous romantic pen pals; little knowing their respective correspondents are none other than each other. Funny, intelligent, honest, and sentimental, "She Loves Me" is a warm romantic comedy with an endearing innocence and a touch of old world elegance. The scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors, based on participation in Actorsingers activities, school activities, scholarship, leadership, and community service. This year, the awards were presented in memory of Barry Bonner, a longtime Actorsingers member. This fall, Marianne heads north to Plymouth State College, and Lauren heads south to Boston University. The show goes up one weekend only, 11/8, 11/9, and 11/10. Adults ages 16+ are invited to audition for "Titanic." This show requires a big cast, with 50+ adults. "Panache" is a romantic comedy involving a mix-up over personalized license plates. Fourth in the series is "Middleman," a comedy by Tom Patrick of Evanston, IL, slated for 9/23. Organized Chaos - - - - - - - - The next presentation from the teen Improv Group "Organized Chaos" is Friday 7/5, 7:30 downstairs at the ASF. Little Shop of Horrors - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - With "Little Shop of Horrors" the American Stage Festival brings campy classic to the stage in Nashua. This Rock 'n Roll musical has already "taken root" at 14 Court Street and continues through 6/30. Tickets are $18 to $25 with group discounts available. "Little Shop of Horrors" is directed and choreographed by Susan Streater whose long list of credits include directing and choreographing "Chicago," "Bells are Ringing," "Forever Plaid" and "Fame." Streater has also performed on Broadway in "Merlin" and at Radio City Music Hall in "Encore" and the "Christmas Spectacular." She spent a year on the road performing and understudying Gwen Verdon in "Chicago" and danced in the film "All That Jazz" -- both directed by Bob Fosse. The ASF cast includes Tyrone Aiken (Audrey II), who has performed this role throughout the United States, (including at ASF in 1993); Bridget Beirne (Audrey), who recently appeared at the SpeakEasy Stage Company in Boston, Peter Edmund Haydu (Orin), and Josef Hansen (Seymour) both of whom local audiences will recognize from past roles at American Stage Festival. Les Miserables - - - - - - - - - - - The Peacock Players announce AUDITIONS for a youth production of "Les Miz," Monday 8/19 and Tuesday 8/20 from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM. AFTER August 1, applicants should call (603) 889-2330 extension 4 to schedule a five minute audition appointment. To be eligible to audition for this production, you must be between 10 - 19 years old and a full time high school or middle school student in the 2002/2003 school year. Auditions are at the American Stage Festival, 14 Court Street, Nashua. Applicants should be prepared with a song, bring sheet music, and avoid auditioning a song from "Les Miz." Rehearsals will be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, and Sundays from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Ten performances are scheduled for November 8 - 24, 2002. (PPP) 3.2 An opportunity to participate in the premiere of "Broadway AeroDance" is coming to Manchester and Nashua this summer. Donna O'Bryant, certified ACE and NDEITA fitness instructor, developed this unique program -- a new concept in aerobic dance exercise, designed for adults ages 16+. Donna has choreographed and performed with numerous musical theatre groups in NH. Most recently, she choreographed the acclaimed production of "Chicago" with the Music and Drama Company (MADCo) in Londonderry. In the summer of 2001, Donna played and danced the role of "Frenchy" in "Grease," with the Actorsingers. The Manchester course is Thursday nights, 6:00 to 7:30 PM, at the 3rd floor studio at 83 Hanover Street, Manchester. There are no full-coalition meetings in July and August. However, ad hoc teams are already hard at work on "A Taste of the Arts" scheduled for October 5, and the annual "Holiday Stroll" scheduled for November.
