Rehearsals for singers are Sunday, September 1 (Labor Day weekend) and Sunday September 8, both from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The chorus especially needs tenors and basses. Contact Nina Eppes at ninaeppes@attbi.com. You will need to provide your own score. The directors are working from the Kalmus edition. The orchestra for this Nashua performance needs violin players, another bassoonist, and a timpanist. Interested instrumentalists should contact Suellen.Davidson@hp.com. There will be two rehearsals for instrumentalists: September 5 from 7:15 to 9:15 PM, and September 8 with the singers from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. In This Issue 1. Victor Hugo's classic story focuses on Jean Valjean, a parole violator, who spends years of his life avoiding and escaping the cunning Javert, an officer set upon returning Valjean to prison. A poor mother, Fantine, is driven to selling herself to provide for her young daughter, Cossette. After Fantine's untimely death, Valjean swears to find and care for her daughter. He finds her in the care of selfish and cruel innkeepers, the Thenardiers, and their daughter Eponine. Valjean pays Thenardier for Cossette and he takes her to Paris. Years pass and revolution is largely spoken of by the destitute of Paris, including the young Gavroche. The story culminates with the intertwining of the characters' lives, loves, and destinies through love triangles, truths discovered, and the struggle for French independence. This time "Froggy" has brought along a friend, a pathologically shy young man named Charlie who is overcome with fear at the thought of making conversation with strangers. Perhaps one of the greatest scores ever written, "Kiss Me Kate" includes such showstoppers as "Another Opening, Another Show," "Too Darn Hot," and "Wonderbar."
