From: "Nina Eppes" To: "Music Lovers" Cc: ; Sent: Thursday, August 01, 2002 10:23 AM Subject: Participants wanted for "Rolling Requiem" performance in Nashua on Sept. 11 Rolling Requiem, in memoriam 9/11/01 On September 11th, 2002, at exactly 8:46 AM in each time zone, singers and instrumentalists from around the world will commence performances of Mozart's Requiem in memory of September 11, 2001 (see http://www.rollingrequiem.org for more information). The Nashua area will be hosting such a performance at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 58 Lowell Street (across from Margarita's restaurant), Nashua, NH. Sandra LaBarge-Neumann will conduct (and rehearse) the chorus and orchestra, with the able assistance of Jared Holland on piano. Nina Eppes will organize the singers and help coordinate the local effort. We seek volunteer singers and instrumentalists who have done the work before or who can sight-read well and will put in a little time on their own to learn the score. (Rehearsal time is precious; we'll need to concentrate on polishing the performance, not on learning the music.) Solo singers are needed as well (soprano, mezzo, tenor, baritone/bass). We plan to accept freewill donations at the performance and give the proceeds to the greater Nashua chapter of the American Red Cross, which sent assistance to New York City in the aftermath of the attacks. INFO FOR SINGERS There will be two rehearsals beforehand for singers: Sunday, September 1st and Sunday, September 8th, both from 4PM - 6PM at the Nashua UU church. The first rehearsal is on Labor Day Weekend, so keep that in mind when agreeing to sing. You will need to provide your own scores. I (Sandra) will be working from the Kalmus edition, which is inexpensive and serviceable. (See http://www.rollingrequiem.org/links.html for links to sheet music vendors and to "song-learning" CDs and tapes.) INFO FOR INSTRUMENTALISTS There will be two rehearsals for instrumentalists, assuming we can get the correct personnel. Those will be one TBA and one on September 8th with the singers from 4 - 6 PM at the UU church. You will need to bring your own stands. I have parts (it's only the Kalmus edition, but hey, they're the right notes...). Needed are strings (including double basses), two clarinets (or basset horns - anyone play that?), two bassoons, three trombones, two trumpets, and tympani. Organ can be optional. (Or...we could just use piano.) Space will be somewhat limited, so you'll need to come imbued with a spirit of goodwill and short bow-draws. (Do trombones comes in a mini version?) CONTACTS & DEADLINE Interested choristers should contact Nina Eppes at: ninaeppes@attbi.com Please indicate what voice part you sing.
