FREE STAGE LIGHTING AND SOUND WORKSHOPS
In conjunction with the Junior Actorsingers Summer dinner/theater production of "Mission ImPastable" at St. Stanislaus Hall (61 Pine Hill Road, Nashua 03063) in Nashua, the Actorsinger's backstage team will be teaching workshops on lighting and on sound. The "Mission" of these workshops is to enable more people to get involved in the backstage technology used in our production. They will try to introduce stage lighting and stage sound to more people in a simpler, safe and (relatively) low pressure setting (vs. trying to learn this stuff during one of our full-scale/short-schedule production). Both workshops will be extensively "hands on". Final schedules and workshop logistics will be emailed to registered participants on or before August 6. The TENTATIVE schedule: Saturday August 9 - Stage Lighting - 9:00 AM - 4 PM The goal of this workshop is to enable participants to be able to participate in stage lighting projects safely and introduce them to the basics of lighting design. This workshop will be done in two tracks - an Introductory track and an advanced track. In the Introductory track we will cover the basics of stage lighting - just enough electricity/physics to do lighting safely, an overview of a full range of lighting equipment (conventional and moving lights, manual and computer lighting control consoles, power systems), color, lighting design, and cueing. Once the basics are covered, we will team up and perform the actual lighting hang for the production and learn how a production and a design come together. In the Advanced track we will focus on the specifics of moving lights and using a "tracking" lighting console. Participants in the Advanced track MUST have either already participated in an Introductory workshop and have/demonstrate an understanding of stage lighting systems and safety. The show's lighting design includes 4 High End Systems StudioSpot 575s, 3 High End Systems Intellabeam 700HXs, 12 Wybron Forerunner scrollers, and will be run off a JandsHog 500 console (running WholeHog II software). IMPORTANT: Participation in the Advanced Track must be approved in advanced by the instructor (Dennis Schneider - dennis_schneider@onpoint.mv.com). (Please note that working on lighting requires some work on ladders and considerable work with electronic equipment. Some of the equipment is heavy and all of it is fragile. If heights bother you or if you experience a twitch when touching light switches I suggest you consider working on sound!) Sunday August 10 - Introduction to Live Sound Reinforcement - 9:00 AM - 4 PM The goal of this workshop is to enable participants to be able to participate in live theater sound reinforcement projects safely and introduce them to the basics of sound system operation. We will cover the elements and components of a sound reinforcement system and the basics of designing and implementing a sound system for live musical theater. We will train on our own professional grade sound equipment - Yamaha 01V Digital Mixer,tri-amplified custom built JBL speaker systems, Vega and Shure wireless microphone systems, QSC power amplifiers, etc. We'll spend some time on solving sound problems created by the design of the performance space - St. Stanislaus Hall represents a "unique" challenge as an environment for live sound (it's a wavy dome 50' high = an echo chamber). IMPORTANT NOTES: 1. Both workshops will be HANDS-ON. There will be some "lecture" but most of the time will be spent handling the equipment itself. 2. Anyone who is interested please sign up with Chuck Emmons 603-891-0734 or via email at Willwonder2001@yahoo.com 3. Interested teens 15-18 are welcome to participate with the approval and sponsorship of a parent/adult. 4. All attendees must be able to make the full 9-4 time commitment. 5. The two workshops are independent - you can attend one or the other or both. While there is no fixed limit to the size of the group that we can handle in one workshop, we will accommodate those who sign up earliest should it become impossible to accommodate everyone interested. |
